Our landlords are one of our most valuable partners in helping us to achieve our aims, and we are extremely grateful to them. Current partners include a number of private landlords as well as The Bradford Diocese and Green Pastures.
If you would like to partner with us as a landlord and think you can offer the following, please call Neal Heard on 07743 189 314 for a more detailed discussion.
- Properties for new refugees (Leeds). We manage a number of properties which have Local Housing Allowance Exempt ‘hostel’ rents. These have a number of advantages for residents and landlords. Please contact Neal Heard if you want a more detailed discussion.
- Properties for more established refugees (Leeds). We act as a not for profit, social lettings agency for a number of our landlords, charging a fee of 10% of rental income for which we provide full housing management / support service. This includes receiving direct Housing Benefit payments and being first point of contact for any housing management problems. We can also provide an introduction service to landlords for very well established refugees.
- Properties for asylum seekers (Bradford). We provide housing management and a support service to residents in accommodation donated by the landlord for a peppercorn rent. This may be a landlord who has a property which has been empty for a long time and who simply wants someone to occupy and / or make use of it. Alternatively, it may be a landlord who shares the charity’s concern for destitution amongst asylum seekers and wants to give their own resources to help. The residents in this situation have no recourse to public funds, so Abigail Housing will not be able to raise any rent by charging the residents. Any rent paid to the landlord will be raised by the organisation through charitable giving. Since 2007, Abigail Housing has managed a number of properties in this scheme with rent payable to the landlord varying from nil to 50% of the market rent.
Abigail Housing pays all utility bills and council tax as well as covering the cost of moving and furnishing.
Please note: Abigail Housing’s experience is that its clients generally prefer properties which are close to city centres.
